  • 📢 Navigating AI Music Distribution: DistroKid vs. TuneCore Policies & What It Means for Dreamweavers Artists

As technology evolves, artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly shifted from a novelty to a staple in modern music production workflows. However, major digital service providers (DSPs) like Spotify and Apple Music, alongside major distributors, have established strict parameters regarding what can and cannot be uploaded to digital stores. At Dreamweavers Records International, we are committed to upholding high artistic standards while helping our community navigate these regulatory shifts. Here is a transparent breakdown of how the major distributors handle AI-generated tracks—and where Dreamweavers stands. 🎧 DistroKid: The Permissive, Rights-Based Approach DistroKid permits AI-assisted and AI-generated music, provided uploaders comply with clear operational guidelines: 100% Commercial Ownership: You must hold full commercial rights to all generated content (e.g., using a paid, commercial subscription tier like Suno Pro/Premier or Udio). Strict Anti-Impersonation: AI voice-cloning or mimicking identifiable artists/celebrities is strictly prohibited. Mandatory AI Disclosure: When submitting a track where lyrics, instrumentation, or vocals were generated or heavily altered by AI, creators must select the AI disclosure box during submission. Anti-Spam Monitoring: Mass-generated, low-quality, or algorithm-gaming uploads are automatically flagged and rejected. 🎼 TuneCore: The Ethical Training & Human-First Approach TuneCore (and its parent company, Believe) enforces a stricter framework centered around training provenance and human authorship: No Fully AI-Generated Songs: Tracks created 100% by AI text-prompt tools without human creative input are completely blocked from distribution. Licensed Training Datasets: If generative AI was used at any stage of production, the underlying AI model must rely exclusively on fully licensed, consent-based training datasets. Human Authorship Required for Publishing: While AI-assisted audio recordings may pass distribution checks, TuneCore Publishing requires identifiable human songwriters to register works with PROs/CMOs for royalty collection. 🎙️ The Dreamweavers Records Submission Policy While our distributors offer pathways for AI-assisted music, Dreamweavers Records International maintains a dedicated standard to protect organic artistry and community integrity. Organic Human Vocals Only: Across all Dreamweavers promoted playlists, YouTube channels, and share-groups, we exclusively accept releases that feature real, organic human vocal performances. Fully AI-generated synthetic vocals or text-to-speech voice clones will not be featured. Mandatory License Verification for AI Assistance: If your track utilizes AI-assisted instrumental generation, stem arrangements, or AI-driven mastering/production tools, you must provide verified proof of a valid commercial license (such as proof of a paid commercial subscription tier or direct licensing documentation) upon submission. By maintaining these standards, we preserve the authentic talent of our singer-songwriter community while ensuring every track shared through our network is fully protected, legally clear, and ready for long-term commercial success.

  • How about the subscription fee's to TuneCore and DistroKid if I decide to publish through Dreamweavers Records International?

Adding additional primary artists to TuneCore costs $14.99 per artist per year. However, there are a few important rules and tier requirements to keep in mind: Subscription Requirement: Only the Professional Plan ($49.99–$54.99/year) supports multiple primary artists. The lower Unlimited tiers (Rising Artist and Breakout Artist) allow only one primary artist name. Included Artist: The Professional plan base price includes one primary artist. Each secondary or subsequent primary artist added to the account incurs the $14.99 annual fee. Unlimited Releases: Once an artist slot is purchased, you can distribute an unlimited number of releases under that artist's name for the year without paying per single or album. Featured Artists vs. Primary Artists: If an artist is only credited as a Featured Artist on a track (rather than a Primary Artist), you generally do not need to purchase an additional artist slot. Extra artist fees apply when you are releasing tracks or albums where that individual or group is designated as the main artist/co-primary artist. Unlike TuneCore's model of paying a flat $14.99 per individual add-on, DistroKid does not sell artist slots one by one. Instead, you must upgrade to a plan tier that accommodates the total number of artist/band names you manage. Plan Tier Annual Cost Artist / Band Slots Included Musician ~$24.99/year 1 artist Musician Plus ~$44.99/year 2 artists Ultimate (formerly Label 5) ~$89.99/year 5 artists Ultimate (Higher Tiers) ~$139.99 – $389.99+/year 10 to 100 artists (scaled by 10, 20, 50, or 100 slots) No Prorated Single-Artist Add-on: If you are on the standard Musician plan and want to add a second primary artist, you cannot simply buy a slot for $10 or $15—you must upgrade to Musician Plus. If you need a third artist, you must jump to the Ultimate (5 Artists) plan. Permanent Slot Locking: Once an artist name is used to distribute a release on DistroKid, that slot cannot be erased, replaced, or recycled to free it up for a different artist later. If an artist leaves or ceases releasing music, that slot remains tied to their catalog as long as the music is active under that account. Featured Artists Are Free: As with most distributors, if a secondary artist is only credited as a "Featured Artist" on a track (e.g., Artist A feat. Artist B), it does not take up an artist slot on your account. Slots are only consumed by Primary Artists or co-primary collaborations. Dreamweavers Records International registered a Professional Plan with TuneCore and the DistroKid Musician Plus with DistroKid, which will be upgraded to Ultimate soon To save money, you are encouraged to only register with a 10 USD per year account on DistroKid so that your royalty spilt can be paid directly to you by DistroKid. For the launch of Dreamweavers Record Label on 15 September 2026, we have already agreed with 3 artists to publish works for them, free of any charges for them (with a signed publication, distribution and promotion contract in tact). One artists is a premium subscriber to our Facebook page and publication, distribution AND PROMOTION on all major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok) will be part of the premium subscriber benefits we offer for 9.67 USD per month. How we will promote our artists: By creating, co-managing and promoting a Facebook Fan Group tied to our Facebook page and sharing your content there & resharing content you share there. By publishing reels on our Facebook pages, YouTube channels, TikTok accounts, and adding your publicized sounds from the catalogues to the reels so that views will count towards your streams with the distributors. By promoting your artist page, that will be created for each signed artists on our website, with all your social media and music channel links, through promotion campaigns on social media.

  • Signing artists by Dreamweavers Record Label through Tunecore or Distrokid

Navigating independent digital distribution while safeguarding rights, managing expenses, and ensuring fair compensation is critical for every artist joining the Dreamweavers Records International roster. Under our guiding ethos—"Forging melodies, shaping dreams"—the goal is to bridge raw creative talent with modern digital infrastructure. This guide ou1. Publishing Original Music Under Dreamweavers Records International Releasing original music requires coordinating technical metadata and branding to maintain label identity across all Digital Service Providers (DSPs) such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal. Account Setup & Ownership: The master recording can be distributed either directly through a central label account managed by Dreamweavers Records International or via the artist’s own distributor account linked to the label. Label Imprint: To ensure formal cataloging, the release metadata field marked Record Label Name must strictly be entered as: Dreamweavers Records International ,Feature / RequirementDistroKidTuneCore Label / Multi-Artist PlanUltimate Plan (~$89.99/year)Professional Plan (~$49.99 to $54.99/year) Initial Artist Slots IncludedUp to 5 artists included in base Ultimate tier1 primary artist included in base Pro tier Cost to Add Additional ArtistsScaled tiers (e.g., 10 artists for ~$139.99/yr, up to 100 artists for ~$239/yr)$14.99/year per additional artist slot Custom Label NameIncluded in Musician Plus & UltimateIncluded in Professional tier Automated Royalty SplitsFree built-in feature ("DistroKid Splits")Built-in splits feature available Cover Song Licensing~$12.00/year per song (automated via HFA)~$15.00 one-off/annual per track Best Suited ForHigh volume of releases across a fixed roster of 5+ artistsLabels scaling slowly one artist at a time with predictable per-artist additions Dreamweavers Records International Audio & Asset Specifications: Audio Master: Uncompressed stereo WAV files (24-bit / 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz recommended). Cover Artwork: Square format (1:1 aspect ratio), minimum 1400 \times 1400 pixels up to 6000 \times 6000 pixels in JPG or PNG format. Artwork must be crisp and free of blurriness, pricing, barcodes, URLs, contact details, social handles, or misleading logos. Songwriting & Publishing Metadata: Artists retain ownership of their underlying musical compositions. All songwriters and composers must register complete legal names alongside their Performance Rights Organization (PRO) affiliations (e.g., SAMRO, BMI, ASCAP) and IPI/CAE numbers during the submission process. 2. Platform Comparison: DistroKid vs. TuneCore Both distributors are industry-standard aggregators that allow independent artists to retain 100% of their streaming earnings on paid tiers. However, their pricing structures and handling of multiple artist rosters differ substantially. DistroKidTuneCore Label / Multi-Artist PlanUltimate Plan (~$89.99/year)Professional Plan (~$49.99 to $54.99/year) Initial Artist Slots IncludedUp to 5 artists included in base Ultimate tier1 primary artist included in base Pro tier Cost to Add Additional ArtistsScaled tiers (e.g., 10 artists for ~$139.99/yr, up to 100 artists for ~$239/yr)$14.99/year per additional artist slot Custom Label NameIncluded in Musician Plus & UltimateIncluded in Professional tier Automated Royalty SplitsFree built-in feature ("DistroKid Splits")Built-in splits feature available Cover Song Licensing~$12.00/year per song (automated via HFA)~$15.00 one-off/annual per track Best Suited ForHigh volume of releases across a fixed roster of 5+ artistsLabels scaling slowly one artist at a time with predictable per-artist additions 3. Cost Analysis for Adding Multiple Artists When growing a label roster, your distribution overhead scales differently depending on the chosen platform: DistroKid DistroKid does not sell individual add-on artist slots on demand. Instead, you purchase or upgrade to bracketed plans under the Ultimate umbrella: 5 Artists: ~$89.99 / year 10 Artists: ~$139.99 / year 20 to 100 Artists: Scales up to ~$239.99 / year Advantage: Unlimited song and album uploads across all active artist slots without per-track distribution fees. TuneCore TuneCore’s modern unlimited tier operates on an itemized add-on model for labels: Base Professional Tier: ~$49.99 – $54.99 / year (covers the 1st artist profile). Each Additional Artist: Exactly $14.99 / year per artist slot. Formula: Annual\ Cost = \$49.99 + (N - 1) \times \$14.99 (where N is the total number of artist profiles). Advantage: Highly cost-effective when managing 2 to 4 artists, avoiding large bracket jumps until the roster expands substantially. 4. Cover Song Licensing: Mechanics and Legalities Distributing a cover song requires securing a compulsory mechanical license to pay statutory mechanical royalties to the original composition's copyright owners. Neither artists nor the label can distribute cover songs to streaming and download platforms without this license. How DistroKid Handles Covers: DistroKid charges $12.00 per song per year. They automatically secure the required license through the Harry Fox Agency (HFA), track sales and streams across digital stores, and deduct statutory mechanical royalties owed to publishers directly from your streaming payouts. How TuneCore Handles Covers: TuneCore partners with third-party licensing administrators to secure mechanical clearance, typically charging an administrative fee of ~$14.99 – $15.00 per cover track. Crucial Cover Song Rules: You cannot alter the core melody or lyrics of the original work without explicit permission from the original publisher (derivative works require manual publisher clearance, not compulsory licenses). You cannot sample the original audio recording. A cover must consist solely of newly recorded audio performed by the artist. Public domain songs do not require mechanical licenses, though arrangements of classical pieces can still carry copyright claims. 5. Automated Splits & Direct Distributor Payouts One of the greatest operational advantages of modern distributors is eliminating manual label bookkeeping. Rather than the label collecting all revenue, calculating accounting ledgers, and transferring funds to artists manually, distributors provide automated revenue routing: Setting Up Splits: On DistroKid, the account administrator enters each collaborator's email address and designates their earnings percentage (e.g., 50% Artist, 30% Producer, 20% Dreamweavers Records International). TuneCore offers a comparable splits module within its platform dashboard. Account Onboarding: Each collaborator receives an automated invitation to accept their split. If a collaborator does not already have an account, the distributor prompts them to create a free account to input payout and tax details. Automated Direct Payouts: Streaming revenues earned across platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.) are routed automatically according to the locked percentages. Funds are deposited directly into each collaborator’s chosen payout method (e.g., Direct Deposit/ACH, PayPal, or Wire Transfer) without ever passing through the label's personal bank account. Tax Compliance: The distributor handles the end-of-year tax reporting (such as IRS 1099-MISC or W-8BEN forms for international creators), shielding the label from distributing tax documents manually for collaborator splits.
